IPL Hair Reduction

Treatment times will depend on the size of the area, so smaller areas such as underarms will be allocated for 15mins, whereas a larger area such as half legs will require about 45 mins, with full legs needing about 1hr and 30mins

For your initial consultation, it is important you do not shave or remove the hair, so it can be assessed. 

However, to prepare for your first full treatment we need to clip or shave the hair to skin level. You can do this yourself at home, or this can be done in the salon.

During the treatment, the IPL light will then pass through the skin layers and heat the hair roots. The following 7 to 10 days after the treatment, the 'cooked' hair roots will naturally cast out of the skin and initially appear like a shaving stubble, but will fall away leaving the skin feeling very smooth. Normally there is not any rashes or ingrown hairs. . . ; just smooth clear skin.

Then after around 3 to 6 weeks (depending on the face/body area) some new regrowth will be noticed. At this point you are advised to book your next treatment before the hair becomes long.

Because the treatment aims to heat the hair inside the follicles, it is normal to experience a momentary warm 'pinch' that only lasts a fraction of a second. It is often described as manageable mild discomfort, with most people saying it is much more comfortable than waxing! The part of the applicator that makes contact with the skin is maintained at 4 degrees, which helps to keep the skin cool during treatment.

The long term hair reduction results depend very much on the body area. Generally (although everyone responds slightly differently) areas where hair reduction is most effective are underarms, bikini areas and lower legs. 

Also the beard areas on men reduce extremely well. Most people find, after a series of treatments, that very little hair grows back on these areas even after several years. 

Body and Face areas where the hair reduction is not so predictable, and where finer regrowth may persist over time, include: Arms. Torso (back, chest and abdomen) Thighs, Fine hairs on  Female Faces. 

All treatment areas will benefit from at least 4 to 6 weeks clear from hairs, and the big benefit of IPL treatment is it solves ingrown hair problems. Also there is no stubble, rashes or spots as the treated hairs fall away from the skin, and the IPL light helps improve skin texture and tone 

The first 1 to 3 treatments usually results in a significant reduction in hair regrowth. After those first few sessions you can then continue treatment until you feel happy with the reduction. We don't like to promise an exact number of treatments, however, a general guideline is for dark course hair around 4 to 8 treatments usually reduces most hair, whereas thinner texture hair and lighter colour hair may require ongoing 'maintenance' a few times a year.
